TO ISOLATE? OR NOT TO ISOLATE? THE CHOICE IS YOURS

TO ISOLATE? OR NOT TO ISOLATE? THE CHOICE IS YOURS

by Rick Haynes

The Coronavirus sweeping across our wonderful blue planet has already taken the lives of so many innocent people. Rich or poor, the old, or those with underlying health conditions, the virus doesn’t choose its victims. For no matter their gender, race or religion it simply destroys any human it can.

I know many of my friends have already taken precautions. Unfortunately, I also have friends still refusing to admit their vulnerability. Being fit, healthy, and younger than me, they may, and I stress again, they may have a point. But who knows? Is it worth playing Russian Roulette with your life, especially as those with existing health problems are in real danger?

There are massive problems all over the globe as almost every place on Earth is recording deaths from Covid 19. Food queues, stockpiling goods, choosing who you mix with, holidays, flights, the list of disruption is endless. And let’s not forget the wave after wave of false news, including magical cures, sweeping across social media.

Every single human being now has a choice to make. And it’s a difficult one. Mixing with friends and family increases the risk, yet who would want to stop seeing them, to stop enjoying their company? And let’s not forget mixing with others in supermarkets, petrol stations, places of work, and of course, socialising. Staying at home? What sort of living would that be?

But for those most at risk from underlying health problems, like me, the choice was a no-brainer. Self-isolating? I didn’t know what it was but I do now and it didn’t take long for my wife and me to work out a plan.

Order online for home delivery - tick. Take walks where no other folks were -tick. Wash hands frequently - tick. Use sanitizers - tick. Keep writing - tick. I realise this could go on for months and I’ll get bored. Boredom? I can cope with that as dying is a bit too permanent.

I wish you well.

My final point concerns self-isolating.

If you've gotta isolate. You have to do it. So don't hesitate, do it now.

But let's take a look on the bright side of life. Think of all the new ideas buzzing around inside your head; the words you can type; the new tales you can create. With so much time and so little to do don't let the boredom overcome your creative juices.

I dare you, double dare you, to write a masterpiece.

What have you got to lose?

Life is so precious, yet at times, fragile.

Take care - stay safe.

And may you all live a long and healthy life.

P.S. Let me know what you think. hirick@yahoo.co.uk
