THE WAITING GAME by Rick Haynes


A Drabble


Men, women and children were keeping their distance, yet an air of expectation wafted like soft clouds on a sunny day.

Many were called but never returned and I hoped some of them had achieved their desires.


To hell with covid-19, I said to myself as I wondered whether I would be lucky this time.


Thinking about the future, I suddenly realised my name had been called.


Following the girl into a comfy room, she smiled and announced my application had been accepted.


And when my new friend, Rocky, appeared, I knew he would be my wonderful dog for life.
